Summing up the festival

Hi All!!

Festival sum-up
Apart from several teething problems, The Avant Garde Festival seemed to work.
There were 31 participants, 34 events and 600 + visitors.
Marketing could have been better and the literary aspect did not integrate very well as regards the publishers.
The art show at Stadsbiblioteket was excellent, full of people and discussions/performance, and it was interesting to note how well the music and performance drew in the visitors. Not to mention Josefina’s upside-down biro sculpture, Mauritz et al’s trip through the fountain under a bench and Benedikte’s startling performance.
The performance at Litteraturhuset on Friday was outstanding (in my opinion!) and although not quite so intense, very good on Saturday. Sunday I missed unfortunately, owing to having to be in two places at once. Here, we could have done with a larger audience, but unfortunately marketing plans had mostly failed – partly due to a mishap in the printing of the headline for the flyer.

And not least, many thanks to “Sander”, without whom the whole enterprise would probably have fallen apart!

Funding
Now is the time to present festival results to Göteborg & Co and others for funding.
Consequently I’d be most obliged if you would let me know approximately how much you would like to charge for participation in the next festival (if you want to be in it) because I need to draw up a budget and present it later this month.

Other
IMPORTANT: The Art Norden Theatre would like to try and put on a short play (10-15 minutes) for the next festival and needs two or three actors. If you are an actor, or know any who might like to take part, please let me know. The cost of the play (including paying the actors for rehearsals and performances) to be included in the budget.

You can reach me by e-mail info@artnorden.se or phone on 0303 225305 or 0734 281053

Cheers

Nigel (project manager The Avant Garde Festival)

I september släpptes Göteborgsbaserade Nadja Itäsaar idebutalbumet Songs From The Woods Of Inner Mind och albumtiteln ger en bra bild av Nadjas musikaliska visioner.

More stuff

Hi all

  1. A few things to say now and then I would ask you to keep a regular eye open for updates and news on the blog at www.artnorden.se

  1. The Avant Garde Festival is now established among the fauna and flora of the Göteborgs Kulturkalas 2016. Hopefully we will be contributing something to the more cultural side of things.

  1. We will be at Stadsbiblioteket, Götaplatsen and Litteraturhuset, Heurlinsplatsen on 19,20 and 21 August. Setting up Thursday the 18th, taking down Monday the 22nd. Mingle nites at Litteraturhuset Friday and Saturday 10 p.m. – until you’ve had enough.

  1. Those who have already stated which venue (or both) they wish to inhabit need not repeat themselves. Those who have not stated please do so asap.

  1. Those who decided somewhat belatedly not to join us this year (the going-to-press deadline was 1st of June) might notice they have been included in the Kulturkalas program. We apologise for this. Never fear – no harm has been done – we can make up an excuse if anyone asks where you are.

  1. Funding is low, and we don’t have much to invest in publicity (flyers and posters). So if you intend to pay some kind of registration contribution but have not yet found the time, please do so in all haste.

Book Fair established!

Good news!

We have set up an avant garde festival in Göteborg with the focus on literature,

To take place on the 19,20 and 21 of August 2016. Venues are Göteborgs Litteraturhus and Stadsbiblioteket.

27 publishers and 2 bookshops have expressed interest and 15 publishers have confirmed participation.

We hope other artists, not only writers, will be joining in and providing performances, talks and other features.

6 publishers, who were unable to join in this year owing to previous commitments, have registered interest for August 2017.

If you have not been contacted, but would like to participate, please contact Nigel Ford at info@artnorden.se  I check this e-mail address several times each day.

More information concerning the program, marketing activities etc. coming soon.

If you’d like to ask anything please call me on 0734 281055

Nigel

The Alternative Book Fair

More hope for the book fair in August – Vertigo has expressed an interest and said they will refer to a couple of other suitable publishers too. Ken Clay from The Penniless Press has confirmed their participation and suggested putting their magazine The Crazy Oik on show along with a number of novels etc. The Crazy Oik site, by the way, is well worth a visit! Satirical, fun and thought provoking. We applied for funding from Göteborg Stad Kultur in February without success, but will try again in May. Perhaps we’ll have more luck with our now more impressive line-up.

Personally,I have mended my ways and updated my Linkedin page (Nigel F. Ford) and started up FB once more.

Worldscribe (www.worldsdcribe.nu) has now published Rainer Hoffmann’s 80 Tage Kairo in English (80 Days in Cairo), should be up on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Lulu and the Worldscribe site any day now. The good reviews keep coming in. If you’re broke you can download it free (or for a donation) from the Worldscribe site.
